Prickly pear cactus is a popular south-western plant because it's one of the few that can live outside year-round to hardiness zone 5! Though we don't use them in our landscaping but indoors as decor, they are easy to take care of as long as they get bright (indirect or direct) light and are not overwatered. Given enough light and maturity, your cactus WILL fruit one day.
Light: Bright, indirector direct lightSoil: Cactus soil (2 parts sand, 1 part peat moss or regular potting soil if you can't find a premade mix)
Water: Water when soil is completely dry, we usually recommend 1 time every 3 weeks in summer and 1 time every 4-6 weeks in winter (if inside).
Humidity: None
Temp: Keep above 20°F
TOXIC. Though it takes eating A LOT to be considered toxic, we still do not recommend having these around pets or human babies just to be on the safe side!
